Statua di santa Begga, fac ciata del convento delle Beghine a Lier, in Belgio Santa Begga (attor no al 620 – Andenne, 17 dicembre 693) era una delle figlie di Pipin o di Landen e di sua moglie Itta: fu moglie di Ansegiso e madre di Pip ino di Héristal. Fondò il monastero di Andenne e ne fu badessa. È n el catalogo dei santi della Chiesa cattolica. Il padre Pipino di Land en, Maggiordomo di Austrasia, la diede in sposa ad Ansegiso, domesticu s dei re Sigeberto III e Childerico II e figlio del vescovo Arnolfo d i Metz. Dal loro matrimonio nacque Pipino di Herstal, che fu il fauto re della riunificazione dei regni franchi ed il fondatore della dinast ia dei Carolingi. Imitando la madre che, rimasta vedova, aveva fondat o il monastero di Nivelles, diventandone badessa, dopo la morte di su o marito Ansegiso (685) fondò il monastero di Notre Dame ad Andenne , nei pressi della Mosa. Attorno alla chiesa madre, fondò altri sett e oratori, ispirati alle sette basiliche di Roma. Le altre notizie sul la sua vita, desunte dai martirologi, sono ampiamente leggendarie. |
