The ''Annales Londonienses'' recor d that "Ranulphus comes Cestriæ" had four sisters, of whom "primogeni ta… Matilda" married "comiti David" [1]. Benedict of Peterborough re cords the marriage in 1190 of "David frater Willelmi regis Scotiæ" an d "sororem Ranulfi comitem Cestriæ" [2]. "Comes David frater regis Sc ottorum" founded Lindores Abbey, for the souls of "…Matilde comitiss e sponse mee et… David filii mei", by undated charter (dated to befo re 1203 from the names of the subscribers) [3].
