The Gesta Stephani Regis records that "P hilippum filium Glaornensis comitis" was given command of Cricklade i n succession to "Willelmus… de Dovre" but later joined King Stephen , dated from the context to [1147] [1]. He went on a pilgrimage to th e Holy Land [2]. "Philippo quoque filio comitis Gloecestrie" is record ed as present in a letter from Hugues Archbishop of Rouen to Emma abbe ss of St Amand, in a charter dated 1147 [3].
