According to Orderic Vitalis, he was " a man of the highest renown and knightly valour and was outstanding am ong the greatest nobles of Normandy for his wealth and honours" [2]. O rderic Vitalis records that he was ambassador from Guillaume II Duke o f Normandy to Henri I King of France in 1054, when he reported the duk e's defeat of the king's supporters "across the Seine" [3]. Orderic al so records that he "carried away by night" his uterine half-sister Agn es d'Evreux and gave her in marriage to Simon de Montfort, receiving i n return Simon's daughter Isabel as his wife [4]. Orderic Vitalis reco rds disputes between his vassals and Duke Guillaume who exiled “mili tes Rodulfum de Toenia et Hugonem de Grentemaisnilio atque Ernaldum d e Escalfoio”, dated to [1059/61] [5], the same source recording i n a later passage that Duke Guillaume recalled “Rodulfum de Toenia e t Hugonem de Grentemaisnilio”, dated to [1063] [6]. Orderic Vitali s names “...Rodulphus de Conchis Rogerii Toenetis filius, Normannoru m signifer...” among the leading lords under Guillaume II Duke of No rmandy [7]. Orderic Vitalis names “...Galterius Giphardus et Radulph us Toenites...” among those who took part in the battle of Hasting s [8]. Orderic Vitalis records that “Radulfus... de Conchis filius R ogerii de Toenia... Normannorum... signifer”, wishing to leave “i n Hispaniam”, donated property to Ouche in reparation of the damag e he had previously done by supporting “Ernaldi de Excalfoio” in b urning the place, and in particular donated “in Angliam... duos mans iones... in Nortfuc... Caldecota, alteram... in Wigornensi provincia.. . Alwintona” [9]. Odo Bishop of Bayeux bought "la terre de Chernet " from "Herberto de Agnellis", with the consent of "suo domino Radulf o de Conchis", by charter dated 30 Nov 1074 [10]. "Ralf de Conchis so n of Roger de Toncio" donated property to the abbey of Saint-Evroul b y charter dated to [1080], witnessed by "Rogerus de Clara, Galterus d e Hispannia, Guillelmus de Paceio, Robertus de Remileio, Geroldus Gast inellus, Gillebertus Toroldi filius, Rogerus de Mucegros, et Galteru s de Calvo Monte" [11]. Domesday Book records land held by “Ralph d e Tosny” in Charlton in Wantage Hundred in Berkshire; Flamstead in D anish Hundred and Westmill in Braughing Hundred in Hertfordshire; Char ingworth, Icomb, Bromsberrow, Harnhill, Ampney and Lower Swell in Glou cestershire; several properties in Worcestershire; the castle of Cliff ord and several other properties in Herefordshire [12]. Orderic Vitali s records that “Guillelmus” [Guillaume de Breteuil] gave “tria m illia librarum” to “avunculo suo Radulpho” [Raoul [III] de Tosny ] for his ransom as part of the peace settlement of the Evreux/Tosny w ar and appointed “Rogerium consobrinum suum Radulfi filium” as hi s heir [13]. "Rodulfo de Conchis" consented to the donation of "decima m Ansfredi Villæ" to Sainte-Trinité de Rouen by "Gernagois et Albere da uxor eius, cum filiis suis Willelmo et Rotberto" by charter dated 1 091 [14]. Orderic Vitalis records the death “IX Kal Apr” of “Rad ulfus senex [=Radulfus... de Conchis filius Rogerii de Toenia]” an d his burial “in cœnobio B. Petri Castellionis” [15]. Henry I Kin g of England confirmed the foundation of Conches by "Rogerius senior d e Toenio et filius eius Radulphus senex et Radulphus juvenis filius pr ædicti Radulphi senis et Rogerius filius Radulphi juvenis", quoting t he confirmation by "Radulphus de Totteneio cum Godehilde matre mea" fo r the burial of "patris mei Rogerii", dated to [1130] [16]. Henry II K ing of England confirmed the property of Conches abbey, including dona tions by "Rogeris senior de Toenio et filius eius Radulfus senex et Ra dulphus juvenis filius predicti Radulphi senex et Roger filius Radulph i juvenis", by charter dated 1165 or [1167/73] [17].
