She is named as wife of Wi gerich and mother of Adalberon in the diploma of Charles III "le Simpl e" King of the West Franks granting the abbey of Hastières to the chu rch of Liège [1]. Her first and second marriages are confirmed by th e ''Vita Iohannis Gorziensis'' which names "episcopo… Adalberone" (h er son by her first husband) and "vitrico… eius Richizone" (her seco nd husband) [2]. Secondary sources refer to the wife of Wigerich [III ] as Cunigonde, granddaughter of Louis II "le Bègue" King of the Wes t Franks, for example Rösch [3]. This is based on the assumption tha t she was the mother of Siegfried Count of Luxembourg, whose mother i s named "Cynigund", daughter of "Irmindrud" daughter of King Louis II , in an 11th century genealogy which traces the ancestry of Siegfried' s daughter Empress Kunigund [4]. Although there is a reference in on e of Gerbert's letters to Siegfried being patruus of the Wigerich's gr andson Gozelo [5], the chronology suggests that it is unlikely that Si egfried could have been Wigerich's son, as explained in the document L UXEMBOURG. It is therefore assumed that the wife of Wigerich [III] wa s not the same person as Cunigonde, mother of Siegfried.
