The ''Annales Hanoni æ'' name "Lambertus… comes Lovaniensis" as son of "Rignerii comiti s Montensis" [1]. The ''Gesta Episcorum Cameracensium'' records that " Rainerus atque Lantbertus, filii… Raineri", who had been banished b y "archiepiscopus Bruno", returned to their father's lands after the d eath of Emperor Otto I and besieged "super Hagnam fluvium castrum Buss ud", but that Emperor Otto II ordered their exile again [2]. The ''Ann ales Leodienses, Floressienses et Marchianenses'' record that "Raginer us et Lantbertus" (sons of Reginar [III] Comte de Hainaut) returned fr om exile in 973 and killed "Guarnero et Rainaldo", who occupied thei r father's county, "apud Perronam" and besieged "super Hagnam fluviu m castello Buxude" [3]. Thietmar records that "Lantbertus, Reinherii f ilius… cum fratre… Reingerio" killed "Wirinharium et eius germanu m Reinzonem" [4]. Sigebert's ''Chronica'' records that in 977 "filii R agineri" were "in terra partum suorum relocati" [5], which presumabl y marked the beginning of their rehabilitation. He established himsel f as LAMBERT [I] "le Barbu" Comte de Louvain. He is named "comite Lova niæ Lantberto" in a charter dated 1003 [6]. The ''Annales Colonienses '' specify that "Lambertus comes" returned to favour with Heinrich I I King of Germany in 1007 [7]. The ''Gesta Episcoporum Cameracensium' ' records the death in battle of "Lantbertus comes" at Florennes [8] . "Lantbertum comitem, filium Ragineri Longicolli" is named in the ''G esta'' of Gembloux Abbey when recording his death in battle at Florenn es against "Godefridum ducem" [9], although the reference to "Raginer i Longicolli" is anachronistic.
