Orderic Vitalis records that “Os bernus Herfasti filius” was “de pago Calcegio oriundus”, althoug h in the context of a passage which is anachronistic [1]. "Duke Richar d [II]" donated property to the abbey of Mont Saint-Michel by charte r dated to [1026], subscribed by "…Osbernus filius Arfast, Ranulfu s frater eius" [2]. "…Osbe filius Herfasti…" witnessed the charte r dated to [1030] under which Robert II Duke of Normandy confirmed rig hts of Mont Saint-Michel [3]. Steward (''dapifer'') of Robert II and G uillaume II Dukes of Normandy. "Rotberti comitis, Osberni dapiferi… " witnessed the charter dated to [1030/35] under which "Erchembaldus v icecomes" donated "prata de Salhus et… in Sarlosvilla jure hereditar io" to the abbey of Sainte-Trinité de Rouen [4]. An undated charter , recording a donation to Sainte-Trinité de Rouen, records that "Osbe rnus dapifer" was killed "a suis hostibus" [5]. He is named "Osberni c ognomento Pacifici" in the charter dated to [1035/60] which records th e donation by his widow and two sons to Rouen Sainte-Trinité for hi s soul [6].
