Guillaume of Jumièges names “Richardum... atque Robe rtum et Willelmum” as the three sons of “dux Richardus” and hi s wife “Goiffredum Britannorum comitem... sororem... Iudith” [1] . Ademar names Richard as son of "Ricardus Rotomagensis comes" [2]. A n agreement between the abbots of Jumièges and Bougeuil concerning a n exchange of land in Poitou, by charter dated [13 Apr/4 Apr] 1012, i s subscribed by "Richardus… filius Ricardi principi magni, filius ei us Richardus…" [3]. Guillaume of Jumièges records that “Rainaldu s trans Saonæ fluvium Burgundionum comes” was imprisoned by “Cabi lonensi comite... Hugone”, and that Richard II Duke of Normandy sen t an army headed by “Richardo filio suo” [which presumably dates t he event to [1016/26]] who besieged “Milinandum castrum” and force d Renaud´s release [4]. He succeeded his father in 1026 as RICHARD II I Duke of Normandy. Guillaume of Jumièges records that Duke Richard I II, after suppressing the rebellion of his brother Robert, returned t o Rouen where he died poisoned in 1028 [5]. Orderic Vitalis also alleg es that he was poisoned [6]. The ''Obituaire de Notre-Dame de Paris' ' records the death "VIII Id Aug" of "Ricardus dux Normannie" [7]. Bet rothed (Jan 1027) to ADELA de France, daughter of ROBERT II " le Pieux " King of France & his third wife Constance d'Arles [Provence] (- Mess ines 8 Jan 1079, bur Messines, Benedictine monastery). Kerrebrouck men tions her betrothal to Duke Richard "très jeune" but does not cite th e corresponding primary source [8], which has yet to be identified. "R ichardus Nortmannorum dux" agreed grants of property to "Adela" on th e occasion of their marriage by charter dated Jan 1026, which does no t specify her parentage [9]. She later married Baudouin V "Insulanus " Count of Flanders. The G''enealogica Comitum Flandriæ Bertiniana' ' names "filiam Rodberti regis Francorum Adelam" wife of "Balduinum In sulanum" [10]. The ''Genealogiæ Scriptoris Fusniacensis'' names "Ala m comitissam Flandrensem" the daughter of King Robert [11]. Duke Richa rd III had two illegitimate children by unknown mistresses.
