"Seherus de Quency comes Wintonie" d onated "ecclesiam de Gasc" to Inchaffray Abbey, for the souls of "patr is nostri bone memorie Roberti de Quency et… matris nostre Orable et … Roberti de Quency primogeniti nostri et… Margarete uxoris nostre " by charter dated to [1210/13] [2]. The husband of Hawise of Cheste r was, according to the ''Complete Peerage'', either Robert son of Rob ert de Quincy [3] (about whose existence there appears to be no othe r evidence) or Robert eldest son of Saher de Quincy Earl of Wincheste r [4]. However, the (undated) charter of Saher Earl of Winchester, rel ating to the grant of Bukby, Grantesset, Bradcham and Herdwick resolve s the matter conclusively as it clearly states that Hawise was the wif e of his eldest son Robert [5]. "Seherus de Quency comes Wintonie" don ated "totam terram de Duglyn", held by "Nesus filius Willelmi avus meu s" to Cambuskenneth priory, with the consent of "Robert filii mei", b y undated charter [6]. Robert was excommunicated with his father in De c 1215. The Annals of Waverley record the death in 1217 of “Robertu s de Quinci, filius Seeri de Quinci” [7]. He was accidentally poison ed through medicine prepared by a Cistercian monk [8]. [1] Birth dat e estimated from the estimated birth date of his daughter Margaret.
