"Duke Richard [II] " donated property to the abbey of Mont Saint-Michel by charter date d to [1026], subscribed by "…Osbernus frater comitisse, Hunfredus fr ater eius…" [1]. It is assumed that "comitisse" in this document ref ers to Gunnor, wife of Richard [II] Duke of Normandy, and that "frate r comitisse" should be interpreted as "brother-in-law". A manuscript a t Caen, which commemorates the death of Abbess Mathilde, daughter of W illiam I King of England, names "Osbernus Giffardus, Haduisa eius conj unx" among the deceased at "sancti Stephani Fontanensis", presumably i ndicating that they were buried there [2].
