Guill aume of Jumièges names “Richardum strenuissimum militem” as the s on of “comes Gislebertus filius Godefridus comitis”, adding that h e donated property to Bec with “filii eius Gislebertus, Rogerius, Wa lterius, Rodbertus” [1]. He and his brother are named sons of Gilber t de Brionne by Orderic Vitalis, recording that they took refuge in Fl anders after their father was murdered [2]. Seigneur de Bienfaite et d 'Orbec, after Guillaume II Duke of Normandy restored these propertie s to him after being requested to do so by his father-in-law Baudoui n V Count of Flanders [3]. He accompanied William I King of England in to England and was rewarded with 176 lordships, mainly in Suffolk (man y attached to the honour of Clare) and Kent [4]. Lord of Clare and Ton bridge. The nec rology of Saint-Nicaise de Meulan records the death of "Richardus fili us comitis Gilberti monachus nostre congregationis", undated but liste d among deaths recorded in late April [6]. The ''Genealogia Fundatoris '' of Tintern Abbey, Monmouthshire records that “Ricardo filio comit is Gisleberti” was buried “apud sanctum Neotum” [7].
