The ''Gesta Episcoporum Mettensis'' names "Chrodegangu s antistes… ex pago Hasbaniensi oriundus, patre Sigramno, matre Land rada, Francorum ex genere primæ nobilitatis progenitus" as Bishop o f Metz [1]. The charter dated 25 May 765 under which her son "Grodegan gus… archiepiscopus" [son of Sigramnus and Landrada] donated propert y "in pago Wormacensi… [et] in villa Dagosbesher… in Hostoven, Bur dus, in villa Flamersheim ecclesiam" to Gorze, with the consent of "Pi pini… Francorum regis, avunculi mei" [2], suggests that she was Land rada, supposed daughter of Charles "Martel" maiordomus of Austrasia an d Neustria [Carolingian]. The supposed affiliation of Landrada is sugg ested by Settipani who quotes an Aquitaine necrology which lists "Will elmus… pater eius Theodericus, mater Aldana soror Hiltrudis et Landr adæ" [3]. He suggests that "Hiltrudis" was the wife of Odilo Duke o f Bavaria, and therefore that all three sisters were daughters of Char les "Martel". The theory is attractive but not conclusive, as its vali dity depends on there being no other contemporary Hiltrudis, which i s not provable. If it is correct, there is no indication about the mot her of Landrada and Aldana. Hlawitschka highlights the case against th e affiliation [4].
