Adam of Bremen records that "Wolf sororem" married "duci Gudvino" , and was mother of "ducis Suein, Tostin et Haroldum [genuit parricida s]" [1], although this last reference is unexplained. She is named b y Florence of Worcester [2]. Her origin is deduced from Ulf Jarl of De nmark being described as the uncle of her son Svein by Florence of Wor cester [3]. Morkinskinna names “Gytha, the daughter of Thorgils spra kaleggr and the sister of Jarl Úlfr” as the wife of “Godwin” [4 ]. She was living in Exeter when King William I attacked it in 1068. F lorence of Worcester records that "Gytha… comitissa… mater Harold i regis Anglorum ac soror Suani regis Danorum" fled to Flanders, i n a passage dealing with events in early 1068 [5]. She became a nun a t Saint-Omer.
