It has been speculated that h e was the son of Boso Marchese of Tuscany, for onomastic reasons, bu t that Boso is not known to have had any sons [1]. In any case, Boso w as a reasonably common name in the area at that time. Rotbald supporte d King Louis III "the Blind"'s campaign in Italy in 900 and his effort s to be crowned emperor in Feb 901. m ---. The wife of Rotbald is no t known. It has been speculated, for onomastic reasons only, that sh e was --- d'Aquitaine, daughter of Guillaume "le Pieux" Duke of Aquita ine & his wife Engelberga de Provence, but there appears to be no othe r basis for this suggestion [2].
