The ''Primary Chronicle'' names Igor as son of Rur ik, adding that he was "very young" at his father´s death [1]. This s uggests a birth date in [877/79] for consistency with the report abou t his supposed father´s death in the same source. However, the chrono logy of Igor´s son Sviatoslav, which is more robust as shown below, s uggests that it is more likely that Igor was born in [910/20]. The ''P rimary Chronicle'' records that Igor succeeded (his relative) Oleg i n 912 [2], but this chronology is also difficult to sustain. It is pro bably more accurate to suggest that Igor was established at Kiev by th e end of the 930s [3].
