The '' Annales Egmundani'' name "Arnulfus filius eius [=Theoderici II comitis ]" when recording that he succeeded his father [1]. The ''Chronologi a Johannes de Beke'' names (in order) "Arnulfum comitem, Egbertum Trev erensem archiepiscopum ac Arlindam puellam" as the children of Count D irk II & his wife [2]. "Arnulfi comitum" subscribed a charter dated 2 9 Jun [955/64], signing directly after "Theoderici comitis" [3]. "Theo derico comite et Arnulfo filio eius, Folberto advocato… Ingelberto a dvocato…" signed the charter dated 26 Oct 970 under which "Mathelgod us et uxor sua Ingelswindis" donated "hereditatem sue possessionis i n loco… Wessingim… Siringim… in pago Bracbantensi" to Saint-Pier re de Gand [4]. "… Hecberto et Arnulfo filiis ipsius Theoderici… " signed the charter dated 2 Oct 974 under which "Theodericus comes e t uxor sua Hildegardis" donated "in villa Haleftra in pago Mempesco si ta" to Saint-Pierre de Gand [5]. "Arnulpho filio Theoderici comitis" i s named in a charter dated 30 Sep 975, subscribed by "Arnulfi filii eo rum [Theoderici et Hildegardis]" [6]. "Theodericus comes et uxor sua H ildegardis" and "Hecberto et Arnulfo filiis ipsius Theoderici" are nam ed in a charter dated Oct [967/79] [7]. "Arnulfus filius Theoderici co mitis et Arnulfus filius Hildwini" donated "in pago Taruennensis… i n Rumingehim et in Keremberg, in pago Flandrensi… in Uckesham et sup er Gersta" to Saint-Pierre de Gand, at the request of "Everardi et fil ii eius Baldwini nepotis sui", by charter dated 4 Mar 981, signed by " Arnulfi junioris… marchysi, Theoderici comitis… Ingelberti advocat i…" [8]. "… Theoderico comite, Arnulfo comite…" signed the chart er dated 1 Apr 988 under which "Baldwinus marchysus cum matre sua Susa nna" donated "villam Aflingehem… jacentem in pago Tornacinse" to Sai nt-Pierre de Gand, after the death of "Arnulfi marchysi" [9]. He succe eded his father in 988 as ARNULF Count of Holland. "Arnulfi comitum" s ubscribed a charter dated 20 May 988 [10], the first charter include d in the compilation which he signed without his father. He was kille d in battle against the Frisians [11], although this is doubted by d e Boer & Cordfunke who suggest that he was killed at the mouth of th e river Rhine as the quarrels with the West Frisians started much late r [12].
