The ''An nalista Saxo'' records that "Eila" daughter of "Lotharius comes senio r de Walbike" married "Bertoldus comes", their son being named Heinric h [''Annalista Saxo'' 977]. She built the Münster at Schweinfurt. Dur ing her son's rebellion in 1003, she secured favourable treatment duri ng the siege of her castle by threatening to take refuge inside the ch urch and let herself be burned alive there [Reuter, T. (1991) ''German y in the early middle ages c.800-1056'' (Longman), p. 226]. The deat h of "Eila filia Lotarii de Waldbike, mater Heinrici marchionis" is re corded in the ''Annalista Saxo'' on "XIV Kal Sep", which specifies tha t she was buried in Kloster Schweinfurt which she had founded [''Annal ista Saxo'' 1015]. Thietmar records the death of "Countess Eila" on 1 9 Aug and her burial in the monastery which she had constructed [Thiet mar 7.19, p. 320]. |
