Nota

http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/CARINTHIA.htm RICHGARD von Sponheim ( -10 Apr [1130]). Richgard's origin is confirmed by the source dated [1 106], cited by Wegener, in which Richkart widowed Gräfin von Wasserbu rg donated property to Kloster St Paul witnessed by her brothers Bernh ard and Heinrich [UB 3, 212 n 528, cited in Wegener (1965/67), p. 269] . Richgard's first marriage shown below is uncertain. Wegener suggest s that it is correct because Berthold [I] von Regensburg named his so n Engelbert [Wegener (1965/67), p. 238]. However, he also cites a dona tion by Richgard dated [1108] for the soul of her husband Berthold [M B 12, 17 n 2, cited in Wegener (1965/67), p. 238], which suggests tha t Berthold's death may have been closer to that date, which would excl ude his wife being Richgard, daughter of Graf Engelbert [I], in view o f her other two marriages. A further difficulty is that Richgard von S ponheim is recorded as having a son named Engelbert by her marriage wi th Gebhard von Wasserburg. Although cases are found of children bearin g the same name, the practice remains the exception. Her [first/second ] marriage is indicated by the Fundatio Sancti Pauli in Carinthia whic h names "Poppo gener comitis" as first witness to a charter of Engelbe rt dated 2 Dec 1092, although this does not specify her name [''Fundat io Monasterii Sancti Pauli in Carinthia'' 4, MGH SS XV.2, p. 1059]. Ho wever, the primary source which states clearly that the wife of Graf G ebhard was the widow of Poppo has not so far been identified. [m first ly as his second wife, BERTHOLD [I] von Regensburg und Schwarzenburg , son of --- (-before [1108]).] m [firstly/secondly] ([1090]) POPPO I I Marchese di Carniola e Istria, son of ULRICH I Marchese di Carniol a e Istria & his wife Sophie of Hungary (-1098). m [secondly/thirdly ] GEBHARD [I] von Wasserburg, son of --- & his wife Gisela --- (-3 Oc t [1102]).
