The ''Annales Kamenzenses'' record that "Mesco… rex Po lanorum… sororem… Atleydem" married "Iesse rex Ungarie" by whom sh e was mother of "Stephanum regem Ungarie" [Pertz, G. H. (ed.) (1866) ' 'Annales Poloniæ, Scriptores rerum Germanicarum in usum scholarum'' ( Hannover), ''Annales Kamenzenses'', p. 7]. The ''Breve chronicon Siles iæ'' names "Adilheidem" as sister of "primo dux Mesco", adding that s he married "Jesse rex Ungarie" and that she was the mother of "Stephan um regem Ungarie" born in 975 [''Breve chronicon Silesiæ, Silesiacaru m Scriptores'' I, p. 34]. The ''Kronika Węgiersko-Polska'' records th at "Iesse" married "sororem Meschonis ducis… Athleitam", adding tha t she was a Christian and converted her husband to Christianity [Bielo wski, A. (ed.) (1864) ''Monumenta Poloniæ Historica'' (Lwów) ''Kroni ka Węgiersko-Polska'', ''De sancto rege Ladislao'', 3, pp. 498-9]. Th e primary source which confirms her first marriage has not yet been id entified. According to ''Europäische Stammtafeln'' [ES II 153. She i s not shown in ES II 120], Adelajda was the daughter not sister of Mie szko I Prince of Poland, although the primary source on which this i s based has not yet been identified. If this is correct, she was an ot herwise unrecorded daughter by his first wife (name not known), assumi ng that Prince Mieszko's marriage to Dobroslawa of Bohemia is correctl y dated to 965. Adelajda's birth date range is estimated from the supp osed dates of birth of her two sons by her first husband (before his d eath in [976/78]) and of her three known daughters by her second marri age after [985]. The date range appears chronologically more consisten t with her having been the daughter, rather than sister, of Mieszko, b ut this would be in direct contradiction to the sources quoted above . If she was Mieszko's sister, it is likely that they did not share th e same mother, assuming that the estimated birth dates of Mieszko an d Adelajda are both accurate.
