| Nota | '''From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia''' Bořivoj I (Czech pronunc iation: [ˈbɔr̝ɪvɔj]) (c. 852 – c. 889) was the first historical ly documented Duke of Bohemia (870–889) and founder of Přemyslid dy nasty. As the head of the Přemyslids who dominated the environs of p resent-day Prague, around 870 Bořivoj declared himself kníže - in l atin dux, which means sovereign prince. His title was later translate d by German scholars as "duke" of the Bohemians (Czechs). Although th e German dukes have had the same title, his title was in fact complete ly different. The Czech dux was contrary to them a sovereign ruler. Bo řivoj was recognised as such by his overlord Svatopluk I of Great Mor avia around 872 who dispatched Bishop Methodius to begin the conversio n of the Bohemian Slavs to Christianity. Bořivoj and his wife Saint L udmila were baptised by Methodius (probably in 883) and the latter bec ame an enthusiastic evangelist, although the religion failed to take r oot among Bořivoj's subjects. In the years 883/884 Bořivoj was depo sed by a revolt in support of his kinsman Strojmír, and restored in 8 85 only from the will of his suzerain Svatopluk of Moravia. When Boři voj had died 4 years later Svatopluk took over the rule over Bohemia b y himself. As with most of the early Bohemian rulers, Bořivoj is a s hadowy figure and exact dates and facts for his reign can never be con sidered as completely reliable, although several major fortification s and religious foundations are said to have dated from this time. I n old Czech legends he is said to be son of a prince of Bohemians call ed Hostivít. http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/BOHEMIA.htm BOŘIWOJ , son of --- ([852/53]-[900]).
