The ''Gesta Francorum'' records that "Gisalbertus, vassallus Karoli " abducted "filiam Hlotharii imperatoris" and took her to Aquitaine wh ere they were married [1]. The ''Annales Fuldenses'' also record tha t "Gisalbertus vassallus Karoli" abducted "filiam Hlotharii imperatori s" and married her in Aquitaine in 846 [2]. The ''Annales Mettenses' ' also date this event in 846 [3]. Settipani states that the emperor r ecognised the marriage in 849 [4]. Rösch says that this daughter is o ften named Ermengarde in secondary sources but that there is no contem porary proof that this is correct [5].
