Elena era la figlia de l Duca Uroš I di Rascia. Attorno al 1129, il re Stefano II d'Ungheri a organizzò il matrimonio di lei con suo cugino Béla, il quale era s tato accecato per ordine del fratello del re, Colomanno. Il re concess e alla coppia alcune tenute nei pressi di Tolna. A seguito della mort e senza eredi del re, suo marito Béla fu incoronato Re d'Ungheria i l 26 aprile 1131. Quando suo marito morì il 13 febbraio 1141, il prim ogenito della coppia, Géza II d'Ungheria, salì al trono quand'era an cora un infante. Perciò, Elena e suo fratello Bluš, da lei invitat o a corte, governarono il Regno d'Ungheria fino al settembre del 1146 , quando Géza raggiunse l'età per regnare autonomamente. Helen a was the daughter of Duke Uroš I of Rascia and his wife, Anna Diogen e-Vukanović. Around 1129, King Stephen II of Hungary arranged her mar riage with his cousin Béla, who had been blinded on the order of th e king's father, King Coloman of Hungary. The king granted estates nea r Tolna to the couple. Following the childless king's death, her husb and was crowned King of Hungary on 28 April 1131. Helena exerted mater ial influence over her blind husband during his reign. It was she wh o persuaded her husband's partisans, with her two sons in her arms, t o massacre, at an assembly in Arad, 68 aristocrats they suspected of h aving suggested King Coloman blind her husband.
