The ''Alexeiad'' records that "the daughter-in-law of the Cæsar Ioa nnes…protovestiaria" was imprisoned "in the nunnery of Petrion nea r the Sidera" when the Komnenoi plot against Emperor Nikephoros Botane iates was discovered, referring to her as "kinswoman" of Anna Dalassen a and, in a later passage, stating that she "was of Bulgarian descent " [''Alexeiad'', Book 2, pp. 85 and 87].
