Guillaume o f Jumièges records that Richard married “Gunnor ex nobilissima Dano rum prosapia ortam”, in the sentence which follows the record of th e death of Richard´s first wife [2]. According to Robert de Torigny , the marriage took place to legitimise Richard and Gunnora's son Robe rt to permit his appointment as Archbishop of Rouen [3]. It appears fr om Dudo de Saint-Quentin that Gunnora was Richard I's mistress befor e she married him. The Chronicle of Alberic de Trois-Fontaines names " Gunnor" as the wife of "dux Normannie primus Richardus" [4]. "Duke Ric hard [II]" donated property to the abbey of Mont Saint-Michel by chart er dated to [1024/26], subscribed by "…Gonnor matris comitis…" [5] . Robert of Torigny records the death in 1030 of "Gunnor comitissa uxo r primi Ricardi" [6]. The necrology of Saint-Père-en-Vallée record s the death "Non Jan" of "Gonnoridis… comitissa Normannie" [7].
