http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/NORMANDY.htm POPPA, daughter of BEREN GAR Comte de Bayeux & his wife ---. Guillaume de Jumièges records tha t Rollo captured “Baiocasensem urbem” [Bayeux] along with "nobilis simam puellam...Popam filiam... Berengarii illustris viri" whom he mar ried “more Danico” and by whom he had “Willelmum... filiamque.. . Gerloc” [1]. According to Orderic Vitalis, Rollo "stormed and capt ured Bayeux, slew its count Berengar and took to wife his daughter Pop pa" [2]. In another passage, the same source records that Rollo besieg ed Paris, captured Bayeux, killed "Berengarium comitem" and married hi s daughter Popa, in 886 [3], although this date appears early in ligh t of the likely birth date range of the couple's son Guillaume. The '' Chronico Rotomagensis'' records that "mortua a Gisla, accepit Rollo pr opriam uxorem filiam comitis Silvanectensis Widonis" [4]. Robert of To rigny combines the information, recording that "Rollo dux Northmannoru m" married "Popam prius repudiatam uxorem…filiam…Berengarii comiti s Baiocensis neptem vero Widonis comitis Silvanectensis" [5]. The ''Hi storia Norwegie'' records that, after capturing Rouen, "Rodulfus" marr ied the daughter of its deceased count by whom he was father of "Wille lmum… Longosped" [6]. Guillaume of Jumièges records that Louis IV K ing of the West Franks, after the death of Richard´s father, marche d on Rouen, was received by “Rodulphus et Bernardus atque Anslech to tius Normannici ducatus tutores”, and captured Richard, who was take n to Laon but was freed by “Osmundus... consilio cum Yvone patre Wil lelmi de Belismo” and taken to “Silvanectis” where “Bernardus. .. comes” [presumably identifiable as Bernard [II] Comte de Senlis , who, assuming that the reconstruction proposed in the document CAROL INGIAN NOBILITY is correct, was Poppa´s uterine half-brother] protect ed “nepotem suum Richardum” [7]. It would be possible to reconcil e the different versions if Comte Bernard's mother was married twice , her first husband being Bérenger Comte de Bayeux. Guillaume of Jumi èges records that Rollo married "repudiatam Poppa" again after the de ath of his wife [Gisela] [8]. [1] ''Willelmi Gemmetencis Historiæ' ' (Du Chesne, 1619), Liber II, XII, p. 229.
