Her parentage is stated by Or deric Vitalis, who says that Godgifu went into exile in Normandy wit h her brother [1] in 1013. According to Orderic Vitalis, her first mar riage was arranged by Robert II Duke of Normandy [2], indicating tha t she probably did not return to England after leaving for exile. Howe ver, this information is suspect, assuming that the charter of "Robert us Rex", which names "Comes Drogo… cum duobus fratribus Fulcone… e t Rodulpho necnon uxore cum filiis supra memorati Drogonis", is correc tly dated to 1025 as Duke Robert did not succeed as duke of Normandy u ntil 1027 [3]. Another possibility is that Drogo's children at that da te were born from an earlier otherwise unrecorded marriage. There is n o indication of the birth dates of his known children, but the fact th at none of them was given a typically Anglo-Saxon name also suggests t hat Godgifu may not have been the mother of all or any of them. Godgif u's second marriage is referred to by Florence of Worcester [4]. m fir stly ([1025 or before]) DREUX [Drogo] Comte de Mantes et du Vexin, so n of GAUTHIER [II] "le Blanc" Comte de Mantes, d'Amiens et du Vexi n & his wife Adèle --- (-[13 Aug] 1035). m secondly ([1036]) as his f irst wife, EUSTACHE [II] Comte de Boulogne, son of EUSTACHE [I] Comt e de Boulogne & his wife Mathilde de Louvain (-[soon after 1070/1087]) .
